RAS Water Treatment

Conventional RAS water treatment systems - particularly biological filtration systems (biofilters) - are often not reliable enough or fail to reach their full potential. In addition to ensuring robust nitrification, biofilters must also be capable of reliably preventing risks such as the accumulation of hydrogen sulfide or contamination by geosmin and MIB.

Our approach to RAS water treatment is based on our many years of experience in wastewater treatment, where it is common practice to use bio-augmentation to "steer" a biofilter over time. Bio-augmentation means that bacteria are used as starter cultures, forming the basis for a permanent, natural, and safe treatment. The goal is to initiate and sustain the natural metabolism in the water. The bacteria, together with the exoenzymes they develop, safely control the toxins produced in the system. BluePlanet's research has thereby pioneered an innovative, active microbial management approach.

With "maintenance dosing," RAS biofilters are continuously dosed with specially selected bacterial formulations. This prevents the development of suboptimal combinations of bacterial species, ensures robust nitrification, and avoids spikes in toxins such as H₂S or contaminants such as geosmin.

Our Products:

ACF-RAS Boost

For RAS fish farms, ponds, or circulating fish farms, for rapid action against nitrite problems

ACF-RAS Right   For RAS fish farms, ponds, or circulating fish farms, for permanent long-term action and treatment

ACF-RAS Right Marine   For fish farming in saltwater

Scientific Results and Practical Experience

The partner companies in our BluePlanet network have conducted extensive studies on the effects of the products when used in aquaculture. As a result, geosmin, nitrite, and nitrate levels could be significantly reduced. This enables continuous water recycling with only small amounts of make-up water required. At the same time, fish quality is improved while increasing the overall economic efficiency of production.

Detailed studies are gladly provided individually upon request.
